Networking Drinks

On Friday 31 March 2017, the Perth subcommittee of FALS hosted drinks after work at a wine bar in Fremantle.

The wine bar is called “Whispers” and is owned and managed by Thierry, a charming French ex-pat.

About 15 people were present at some stage during the evening and the ambiance was very convivial.

The only “formal” part of the evening was an entertaining talk by Prof Gerard Carney on the first claim to Australia by France (made by Frenchman St Allouarn on 30 March 1772).

Gerard’s talk was given on the balcony from which it is almost possible to see the WA Maritime museum only a short stroll away in which is displayed the wine bottle and French ecu coin left by St Allouarn on the beach at Dirk Hartog island two and a half centuries ago!
