The provisions of Article 11 of the Law of 31 December 1971 and Article 100 of the Decree of 27 November 1991 allow Australian lawyers to be registered in a French Bar after passing an examination of French law .

Who do I contact to attend the French Bar examination?

The request to be allowed to attend the examination should be directed to: Mr. President of the National Council of Bars – 22, rue de Londres – 75009 Paris.

How much does it cost to apply?

The application is free. A meeting is held each month except August.

What if my application is not successful?

If the decision is not successful, the applicant can appeal before the Court of Appeal of Paris.

If my application is successful what happens next?

When successful, the candidate is allowed to take the exam in a training center. The École de formation des barreaux (EFB, Paris) and the Haute école des avocats conseils (HEDAC, Versailles ) are the only ones authorized to take the exam. However, they do not provide courses. They each hold a session of examinations per year: March-April for EFB, and in November for HEDAC. The registration fee was of €900 on 1 January 2013.

Passing Article 100 exams allows to apply for registration with a French Bar and exercise, after swearing, as a French lawyer.
